This is a book bank that was manufactured by the Bankers Utilities Company of San Francisco, ca 1923.
These were first introduced in that year and were a means by which banks encouraged children to save.
The banks handed these out, but without the key which they would keep. The same key worked on all the banks.
When the bank was full, they would be brought back to the bank where hopefully, from the banks point of view, an account would be opened.
That is why you almost never find these banks with a key.
These banks were produced for Lakewood State Bank of Dallas.
These are nice old coin banks with some history.
A Must Have for Coin Bank Collectors.
